Wordpad

WordPad is the small word processor avaiable by default with Windows Operating System. Before continuing further let us understand what is the difference between Notepad, Wordpad and Ms-Word.

Differences between Notepad, Wordpad and Ms-Word:
1. Notepad and Wordpad are default Windows operating system apps while Ms-Word app is available in Ms-Office package.
2. Notepad is a text editor while Wordpad and Ms-Word are word processors.
The only similarity of these three is that they are developed by Microsoft.

User Interface:
New version of WordPad(from Windows 7) includes Tabs, Ribbons, Groups and Buttons in the place of Menu and Toolbar.

Quick Access toolbar initially appears above the Ribbon can be used to access frequent commands of File tab. It can be customised (commands can be added or removed) by click on the down side showing arrow.

Ribbon can be minimised to provide more workspace.
Minimise the ribbon:
right click on the empty area of ribbon–>select minimise the ribbon

double click on any tab

Change Magnification of Page
Magnification Slider at bottom right corner of status bar
(or)
View Tab–>Zoom Group

Word Wrap: used to specify the boundary of the paragraph. Three options Wrap options available in Wordpad
1. No Wrap
2. Wrap to Window
3. Wrap to Ruler

File Operations
New (Ctrl+N): creates a new file
Open (Ctrl+O): opens an existing file
Save (Ctrl+s): saves the file with 3 identifications(location, name and format) when we are saving first time. Wordpad file will be saved with .rtf (rich text format) extension.
If you are working on an existing file, this command saves the modifications in the same file without showing any dialog box.

Save As: used to save the modifications into another file with different name or different location or different format.
Using this you can save your current working file with different formats like rtf, txt, xml etc.

Page Setup: used to set dimensions of the printable page

Print (Ctrl+P): used to start printing.

Print option in Wordpad have 3 options:
Print Preview
Quick Print
Print

Exit: closes the application. It is same as closing Wordpad application using Close button on the title bar.
